Hello World!
This week was my first week of classes here at Hull, and what a great week it was. First let me start off by telling you my class schedule.
Monday: Leonardo Michelangelo, Raphael
3:15-4:05
Tuesday: American Art 1900-1940
9:15-11:05
Wednesday: NOTHING :)
Thursday: Archaeology of Roman Britain
9:15-11:05
Friday: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael Seminar
9:15-10:05
Since they are some very interesting classes I will give you an overview of what they are about. Starting first with Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael. We will be focusing on the achievements of these three great artists in the High Renaissance. We will look at their artistic careers as well as the development of the artist, patronage, content and function of the works.
American Art will be focusing on the competing forces of tradition and innovation in American painting, photography, sculpture, architecture and applied art in the first four decades of the last century. It will show how the influence on American art is created through the Modernist movement, women artists, and socio-economic conditions of production.
Finally Archaeology of Roman Britain will show us an understanding of the contribution of archaeology to study of Roman Britain, archaeological evidence from roman Britain along with its interpretation, the main types of sites and artifacts associated along with this period, and an understanding of concepts and terminology appropriate for that period.
Sounds like a lot of fun right?!?! Well if anything it should be interesting... hopefully (fingers crossed)
Anyhoo.... So Monday was a boring day, or at least I think it was, that was quite a while ago. But from what I remember I did get to sleep in! That is ALWAYS a plus in my mind! When it finally came to being 3:00 I headed out to my first class, so exciting. I always wondered what it would be like to be in a room full of people talking with awesome accents, lets just say it lived up to my dream. Music to my ears. When I first walked into the room I was confused and really hoped that I had the right class, like most people do on their first day. So, it was my correct class, but I was confused because it was an empty room with chairs in a circle and no desks. How am I suppose to take notes without a desk? Yea, my thoughts exactly. But once class started it didn't matter, we just talked and Professor Bernasconi told us the outline of the class. I like this professor a lot. But he does have a funny thing that he does, within the first 10 minutes of class we had to tell him what our name and major was and then if he didn't have a picture of us he would take one and print it out and that way he could memorize faces with names on his off time. Haha. Also, he claimed to be psychic after it was my turn to talk and just claimed his psychic ability told him that I was American. Double Haha. Anyways, I think I will be enjoying this class!
On Tuesday I had to get up at an ungodly hour of 8! Ohh dear, how do people ever function getting up that early? But I did, somehow... So other than that horrible early start to the day I made my way to my second class, American Art. I did enjoy the class it was a good mixture of lecture & seminar, not just lecture for an hour then seminar for the other hour, it was nicely distributed throughout the 2 hours. I also really liked the professor, with is great explanations and his witty comments about the art and artists made me interested and can actually remember what he said. I was worried that I would fall asleep and be bored since it was early, but I didn't. Mother, you should be so proud! :) After class I don't believe that I did anything too exciting to remember... Maybe I read a book... I don't remember.
Wednesday was a WONDERFUL day! I didn't have to grace any class with my presence, I know they were highly disappointed but they will just have to manage without me. So I did get to sleep in until about 10, which is a plus in my book any day. Now I would have probably slept a little longer, but Julia and Linda were coming over to help me bake a cake for Steffi's birthday on Thursday. After the cake was baked and frosted I took a little nap and relaxation time before we did our family dinner! Yes, we are Family Dinner Wednesdays. I started out this little tradition, we made pita pizzas, and they were Delicious :p. Of course Catherine and I delegated the services of cutting to the boys. Adam cut his meat (salami) Kim cut the pepper and tomatoes, Florian cut the mushrooms and onions, while I laid out the Pitas and put sauce and seasoning on top, and Catherine cut the ingredients for the salad. When all the ingredients were cut we each took our turn and put what we wanted on top of our pita, then threw them into the oven. 10 minutes later we took them out and dug in. Let me say Pita Pizzas are quite good, actually so good that Catherine and I had one for supper the next day.
Continuing on with the week Thursday is here and guess what? That ungodly hour knocked at my door again... Why does school have to do that to me? But on with what I can't control, so I went to my third and final class, Archaeology of Roman Britain. This class did not start off well, I was quite bored, but then it started to get interesting when he put in a DVD for us to watch and about 20 minutes into the movie it quit. Haha. Now I find it absolutely hilarious when things happen like that to professors, especially when they don't know what to do. Don't judge me. After the DVD failed, he went to get the VHS that he copied the DVD from, well that was also a bust. So giving up on that he just went right into the seminar part of the class, he gave us old pieces of pots and we had to discuss them and answer a few questions about them. Now some of those pieces were quite cool. He had my attention after that. When that class was all over it was back to bed before the party that night. We like our naps in college :) After a few hours of rest and relaxation, Catherine and I went to Tesco to get some things for Steffi's birthday later. When we got home we made supper and waited until 9 to head on over to Party!

Thankfully Prof. Bernasconi had said that we don't need to go to Seminar on Friday, otherwise I would have been a very tired lady. So obviously I am on Friday, which nothing happened really. I went and cleaned my room, took a nap, walked around, then later that night I went next door to watch Scrubs with Steffi and Svenja. And then of Course went to bed early since I had to get up at 6 to be ready by 7 to go to Liverpool!
So until tomorrow. Good night! :)
